Titebond Glue General Differences

Titebond Glue General Differences

Titebond wood glue has been around for over 65 years and sets the standard for woodworker’s glue. Titebond has three main glue products:

With several options for woodworkers, one of the most commonly asked questions is, “What is the difference between Titebond wood glues?”

Before we talk about the differences, the glues have a few similarities:

  • All Titebond wood glues are exceptional products for everyday woodworker needs.
  • Each glue is water-based which allows for easy cleanup with a wet rag.
  • Each is also FDA-approved for food contact projects.
As for the differences, each glue has a specialty, and as Titebond evolved each subsequent wood glue improved on previous performance

Titebond Original Wood Glue

The Original Titebond glue sets the standard for PVA wood glues. This interior glue is designed for indoor use and should not be used with exterior projects, or projects that may be exposed to environmental elements such as moisture or dampness.

Original Titebond has a strong initial grab and sets quickly to help reduce the clamp time. The glue can also be sanded easily and has a long shelf life.

Titebond 2 Premium Wood Glue

Titebond 2 has water resistance not found in Original Titebond. However, the biggest difference is its ability to be used with both indoor and outdoor projects enabling more versatility in your projects.

Titebond 2 is weather resistant once cured, and is paintable. Clamp time is only ½ an hour.

Titebond 3 Ultimate Wood Glue

Titebond 3 is the most versatile of the three wood glues, with a higher degree of water resistance than Titebond 2, and is waterproof when cured. The longer open time of 10 minutes provides more latitude to prepare parts that are to be joined. The lower application temperature of 47 degrees allows for more versatility of use in your workspace and is especially helpful for cold-weather woodworkers.
