Your home should be a place where you feel happy and comfortable. This is especially important if you spend a lot of time at home. Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent or you work from home (or both, like me), then making your home a place where you feel happy is pretty important for your mental health.
So if you want to make some changes or need a way to spice up the look of your home—or even just one room—without spending loads of money, then here are a few ideas. Even just picking one of these ideas could help your home go from drab to fab.
1. Rearrange Furniture

Rearranging furniture in a room can give it a whole new look and feel. Plus, it’s totally free! Remember to ask for opinions from your friends and family if you’re feeling stuck on where to move things.
My family lives in a small townhouse of about 1000 square feet. Consequently, my son’s bedroom is pretty small. His closet is huge, though. It’s not a walk-in, but it goes along the whole wall of one side of the room. It’s great for storage, but not so helpful when trying to arrange furniture in the room. Why? Because we now only have three walls to put dressers, beds, and other furniture against, rather than four (plus, the floor vent doesn’t help when trying to place furniture!). When we first moved in last year, I spent hours moving furniture, drawing up blueprints, measuring, and just trying to figure out how to get it all to fit. I had asked my sister to help, but we still didn’t come up with much. Finally, I asked my husband to come look and give his opinion. To be quite honest, I didn’t think he’d possibly be able to come up with a new design to fit it all. After all, I’d been working for hours to do this exact thing and still hadn’t figured it out. Maybe it’s because my husband is a Tetris master, but within 15 minutes of asking for his opinion, we finally had the room arranged to fit all the furniture and not look too crowded!
My point is, if you need a fresh eye, ask other people. You never know the great ideas they might come up with!
2. Add a splash of color

It doesn’t have to be a lot of color. You don’t have to paint all the walls in that room. You can add color with some simple additions like curtains, picture frames, pillows, tablecloths, and so much more. If you have the time, money, and ability to paint the room (and you want to), by all means, do it. But if your life is too busy to take on a project like that just yet, then just pick a nice accent color or two that goes with your current room, and buy a couple inexpensive things to spice it up a tad.
3. Change out the hardware

Consider switching out your light switch plates, cabinets knobs, or door hardware for a new look. You’d be surprised the difference some new hardware can make.
If you’re anything like me, then you love to find a good deal—and there are plenty to be found at rokhardware.com. And with most of the hardware, the price goes slightly down the more you buy!
4. Hang some art and/or frames

Hanging art or frames doesn’t have to be expensive. Go to your local thrift shop and find some old frames to paint. They’ll look brand new. You could probably also find some cool art at the thrift shop... or create your own!
