  5. $3 Thursday: Hooks

    $3 Thursday: Hooks

Winter is coming fast (much too fast if you ask me). I grew up in Southern California so I never really had to worry much about winter coats or anything like that (I wore a sweatshirt once or twice a year, does that count?). But I live in Utah now, and it snowed here already last month—in September! If the rest of the country is experiencing an early winter too, then that means it’s time to get our coats out of storage.

Maybe this sounds petty, but it is what it is, and I’m going to say it. One of the things that annoys me most about winter is that coats and jackets are found everywhere. On the floor in my car, on the floor in my house, hanging over the staircase rail, hanging over the backs of chairs, stuffed inside the toy box, and the list goes on. Needless to say, I’ll be donating some coats this year to the local homeless shelter. But my point is that there’s only 3 people living in my house and we still don’t have enough space to hang all the things we want to hang. I know

  7. How to Install Cup Pulls

    How to Install Cup Pulls

One really simple way to update the look of your home is by simply switching out the outer hardware of your cabinetry. Sometimes, a simple switch from old, worn out knobs to new, shiny pulls can make a big difference. A great look is to have pulls on your cabinet doors and cup pulls on your drawers (note: see the photo above for an example of the difference between pulls and cup pulls).

And since pulls are a little more complicated to install than knobs are (although still easy, so don’t worry!), this blog is dedicated to teaching you how to install cup pulls into your drawers or cabinet doors. There are two basic types of cup pulls—those that screw in from the back (inside of the drawer) and those that screw in from the front. See the photo below for an example of the kind that screw in from the back.

  9. How to Choose the Right Doorstop

How to Choose the Right Doorstop

This small piece of hardware can have some big advantages (or disadvantages if you choose the wrong one). A doorstop’s purpose is to prevent damage to a wall by a door or doorknob. But the purpose of a doorstop is not solely functional, although yes, of course, that is its main purpose. Doorstops can add to the decor of your home too. But there are so many different types of doorstops. So how do you choose the right one? To help, I created this simple guide to show you the basics of different kinds of doorstops and help you find the right one for you and your space.
