Whether you like cooking or not, you have to eat to live. So the odds are that you're probably in your kitchen a lot. I am, at least. But every time I walk into the kitchen, there is an assortment of bottles and containers in the cupboards, on the shelves, and on almost every spare inch of counter space I have. Of course, I am responsible for this mess because every time I go shopping, I always bring back a couple of bottles—big, small, painted, plain, etched, metal, glass, acrylic. I think I have it all! Some are for fun or decoration, but a lot of them are completely necessary. I need oil, spices and cleaners.

I just keep mine in a drawer with my beanies, gloves, and other winter-type accessories, but even still, it seems like there isn’t enough room for them (and I don’t even have that many!). New year, new you! Yes, it’s a cliché, but it’s also a completely doable cliché. Getting organized is something that many of us think about a lot. Organizing your surroundings will benefit you in more ways than one. It will save you time (have you ever spent an hour searching for something that was right in front of you the whole time?), but it will also save you from stress! I always feel much calmer when my house is clean and organized. Also, organizing what’s around you will help you get your goals in order, too! I know quite a few people, including myself, who have a New Year’s resolution to get organized. 1. Plan!

If your family is anything like mine, your kitchen is the home’s gathering place. My family eats, hangs out, reads, and often the kitchen is my office with laptop in tow. The problem with the kitchen being so accessible to everyone is clutter. Grocery bags, the kid’s backpacks, dirty dishes, spices, and all the stuff you can’t figure out where to put enables your kitchen to become a dumping ground for countertops, drawers, and even the cabinets when you need to quickly hide everything before company comes over.
