Ceiling medallions aren’t really used much anymore. But why not?! They can be absolutely beautiful and unique. I don’t know why these oft-stunning pieces of room decor are not being used like they used to. Maybe because people don’t know how to install them. Well, if that is the reason, then no more excuses! Here’s how to install a ceiling medallion.

Styles are constantly changing. The problem is that it can be pretty unrealistic to change the look of your home any time styles change. Remodeling your home every few years is expensive. Luckily, there are a few things we can do to update the looks in our homes without completely remodeling. For example, it may not be realistic to replace your cabinets, but it’s pretty easy to replace just the hardware. And that tiny piece of metal can make quite the difference in style. If you decide to replace your current knobs with different knobs, the process is usually pretty self-explanatory. And you can use the same hole, so there’s not much work to be done. But if you’re going to switch knobs to handles or pulls, then it can get a little more complicated (still pretty easy, though). Knobs only require one hole and handles require two. The last thing you want is an ugly hole right behind your beautiful new cabinets.

So you have two main options: 1) fill the holes or 2)

All-Wood Cabinets

The most important thing you can do to keep your cabinets looking nice is to clean up any spills immediately after they happen. Don’t wait until food or liquid gets hard or crusted on before cleaning it off. Once that happens, cleaning becomes a little more difficult. But it’s not just about the fact that it’s more difficult to get the actual mess off. If left on your cabinets for too long, there is the possibility of discoloration and stains.

Spills can usually be wiped away with a warm, damp rag and mild dishwashing soap. Make sure to dry it afterward.

1. Rearrange Furniture

Rearranging

One really simple way to update the look of your home is by simply switching out the outer hardware of your cabinetry. Sometimes, a simple switch from old, worn out knobs to new, shiny pulls can make a big difference. A great look is to have pulls on your cabinet doors and cup pulls on your drawers (note: see the photo above for an example of the difference between pulls and cup pulls).

And since pulls are a little more complicated to install than knobs are (although still easy, so don’t worry!), this blog is dedicated to teaching you how to install cup pulls into your drawers or cabinet doors. There are two basic types of cup pulls—those that screw in from the back (inside of the drawer) and those that screw in from the front. Granite

Let’s start with granite. Granite countertops are great if on occasion you need to chop on the surface, or possibly lay a hot pot, or pan. Granite countertops are durable and considered scratch resistant, however, it is important to have your countertops sealed and maintained. While granite can generally tackle these kitchen duties, it is still recommended that you use a knife block and hot-pads. If for anything this provides peace of mind.
